Books are a great gift to give when you are buying gifts on a budget as I shared in a recent news segment. They are also an extremely valuable gift, because they provide immense value and have life-changing potential! Here are some of my favorite books by bloggers, for bloggers, or books yanked straight from my Take Over the World Wish List. 🙂 (Affiliate links)
Books From my Bookshelf (Or Computer)
Blog Design for Dummies by Melissa Culbertson – Design informs MANY decisions about what a reader decides to do once they land on your website. Make sure your site is working FOR you, not AGAINST you. This is a huge book and I love the full-color illustrations.
The Art of Being Unmistakable by Srinivas Rao – As a blogger you must, MUST, bring an unmistakable voice and energy to your projects – whether they be online, offline, or in the middle. This book is an easy, but powerful, read.
Think Like a Stripper by Erika Lyremark – Wait! Before you make a snap judgement the advice is super fabulous. My favorite chapter is 25 – You Only Need Two Bikinis which is helping me hone my focus on the most effective and necessary things.
Online Community Management for Dummies by Deb Ng – One of my favorite bloggers of all time, her online community building tips are rock on. Deb has SO much knowledge in this area, and this book feels like sitting and chatting with her about it on a personal level. Love that.
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield – You have to get this book. If you’ve never read it, you need to get it immediately and start reading snippets from the book each day. This is a book I’ve returned to over and over again.
Radical Leap Re-Energized by Steven Farber – No this book is not “about blogging”. But it will help inform your mindset and help you make the shift you need to write, learn, serve, and lead more effectively. This is the newest title by one of the most impactful (I know it’s not really a word) speakers I’ve ever heard.
Choose Yourself by James Altucher –Â “That’s when it clicked…if I was going to thrive, survive, I had to choose myself…We can no longer afford to rely on others and repeat the same mistakes from our past…every second, you have to choose yourself to succeed.” This quote should convince you that this book is a must-read. As bloggers we are choosing ourselves – we are writing on our own terms and sharing stories that matter to us. This book confirms that and addresses the issue not JUST from a business perspective. Vital.
Pinterest for Dummies and Mom Blog SEO by Kelby Carr – Super practical must-know tips for bloggers. Pinterest is my top referrer of traffic for Untrained Housewife and Mom Blog SEO is a brilliant step-by-step walk through for bloggers curious about how to approach SEO work.
Books From My Wish List
These are some books that are my For Bloggers by Bloggers Amazon Wish List (In case my husband asks what I want for Christmas…..*hint hint*).
Manage Your Day-to-Day by Jocelyn Glei – This book has contributions from several big bloggers such as Seth Godin, Elizabeth Saunders, and Cal Newport. Reviews are calling it, “a collection of short essays that can help you regain your focus on the important things in your own life.”
Growth Hacker Marketing and Trust Me, I’m Lying by Ryan Holiday – Â I loved the podcast interview I listened to with Ryan Holiday where he shared some very actionable tips for marketing in today’s attention-deficit culture. I think I’m most excited about the newer marketing book.
Money: A Love Story by Kate Northrup – Mindset, mindset, mindset. Every time I have a mental mindset breakthrough I have a business breakthrough. And this is a book that promises to be mindset-resetting.
Little Bets by Peter Sims – I love the concept of breakthrough ideas emerging from small discoveries. The thought that we can try something small and then build on that if it is well-received is super awesome.
So Good They Can’t Ignore You by Cal Newport – When I heard Cal speak I think my head practically came unhinged from all the nodding I was doing. Passion isn’t enough – you need SKILLS also! I’ve preached about this (read that as ranting) before and can’t wait to read his book on this subject.
Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It by Kamal Ravikant – A system and meditative writings about emotional health and well-being. Being a blogger brings a lot of unique stresses, both behind-the-scenes and infinitely public, so this buffer for self-sanity is very important.
Make Your Idea Matter by Bernadette Jiwa – Bernadette is not only a great strategist and branding speaker, but also a fabulous writer. Her focus on polishing the story and idea is something I believe in whole-heartedly. Have a message worth sharing – share it well.
Die Empty: Unleash Your Best Work Every Day by Todd Henry – Huge fan of Todd Henry, I mentioned his first book, The Accidental Creative, in this post about Best Business Books for Bloggers. You need that one too. The encouragement to pour out all your ideas and generate more is great.
Am I missing a must-read book for bloggers by bloggers? Let me know in the comments!
