Making Money Blogging – Maximize Income on Work Already Being Done

When I spoke at Type-A-Mom, one of my sessions I talked about doing what you’re doing to the next level. Well I’ve decided to take my own advice – and a large part of this decision I owe to Alli Worthington. She emailed me and asked me to call her so she could pick my brain. I realized then that I’m really good at that. I’ve often joked at how easily I brainstorm brilliant ideas on behalf of others. So, for me, I do believe that is my “next level”.

So I am adding to my Renaissance Woman list the title of Consultant. That sounds so impersonal and stuffy though. Maybe just coach. Or cheerleader. Or sounding board. Whatever your need is, the focused time of brainstorming, planning, and mapping out your next step could be invaluable. And here I’m only charging $50 for a 30 minute session.

MakeMoneyBloggingIn tandem with this move, I’m releasing a new ebook – Making Money Blogging: Moving Beyond Ad Sales. Over 75 pages long, and with additional worksheets, checklists, brainstorm guides and action steps, the book will outline several things I’ve used to increase my revenue online. Beyond “just blogging” and trying to rustle up ad sales on my blogs.

There’s a lot you can do beyond that to maximize your online efforts – and income. Repurposing content into an information product like ebooks. Writing related pieces for online content sites like Untrained Housewife, Type-a-Mom, Suite101 or Examiner. Selling your articles to magazines and trade publications to maximize what you can bring in to your family budget with them.

All of these things can be easily done using the research and material you are ALREADY writing. Making Money will be only $25 – a steal considering that you are learning from three years worth of my trial and error. You’ll learn basic writing tips.  And additional sections will cover a variety of information for taking your writing to the next level.

  • How to use Keyword Research that actually HELPS you make money.
  • How to tailor that keyword research for other pay models that have nothing to do with Google Adsense, to help you increase blog traffic or target a specific audience.
  • How to query print magazine editors and republish your online content in trade publications for additional income.
  • How to find paying markets to query.
  • How to brainstorm article ideas that will sell.
  • How to turn the writing you’re already doing into ebooks that will sell.
  • How to find websites to contribute to that will actually pay you. How to be successful at each and avoid the ones that aren’t worth your time!

Checklists are included to help you personalize what you’re reading for you and your unique situation.

A third section covers packaging your writing into ebooks you can sell. Ebooks seem like a difficult thing, but it’s really not any more difficult than a year’s worth of blog posts. The last section covers several online websites to write for. Since I cover only sites I’ve personally contributed to I can tell you from first hand experience the pros and cons of each. Learn how each site treats its writers, what rights they keep or don’t, what their editing process is and why you might (or might not!) want to write there.

All this for $25. Three years worth of experience shared with you – actual numbers, details from my experience and best of all, the honesty you’ve come to expect from me.

With a purchase of the book, you’ll have the option to apply the $25 price to a 30-minute phone consultation, privately one-on-one with me. That will give you a total $75 value for $50.

Will you benefit from brainstorming and goal-setting with me? I can’t guarantee you’ll make millions, but based on the experiences of others who have picked my brain and bounced ideas back and forth with me, I’m confident you’ll definitely get something out of it. Don’t take my word for it though –

See what these had to say….

kelbycarr-headshot“Angela England is an insightful and knowledgeable writer and blogger. I frequently turn to her when I have an idea spinning wheels in my head, and she never fails to nail the perfect way to get the initial concept moving into a tangible plan. She is one of the people I turn to most when I need to bounce ideas off of someone, or when I am struggling with next steps and need advice. Beyond that, she is one of the most generous and helpful women I know, one I trust both personally and professionally.”

chrismclaughlin“When it comes to writing, having another writer to bounce ideas and strategies off of is an invaluable resource. If you’re lucky enough to bounce these ideas off of a writer who has been there and has a natural knack for finding every corner and lifting every seat cushion, you’re fortunate indeed. That’s exactly what has happened to me time and time again when consulting with Angela England. Not only does she give ideas but helps you understand how to find those ideas for yourself for next project you tackle. I’ve broadened my ideas and direction for online and print articles, ebooks, as well as print books with Angela and do so to this day.” ~ Chris McLaughlin

Nikki“Angela has brought everything a good blogger and writer needs to know about marketing her writing skills and making a living beyond blogging for other people. I’ve turned to her on more than one occasion, completely stumped on an idea and she has more than helped me get past my barriers. Angela has helped me both personally and professionally and I can’t imagine a better place to learn how to take my ideas and goals to the next level. A lot of writers and bloggers don’t want to share how they’ve become successful or how they’re making it work; Angela isn’t like that at all. She’s been extremely helpful and insightful and isn’t shy about sharing what she knows. I was totally clueless about adsense, keywords, and creating an ebook but Angela has broken it all down for me in a way that I could understand; it was a true AHA! moment. She worked with me patiently so that I didn’t feel lost and made sure my questions were answered. Every time I talk with Angela and bounce an idea off of her, I end up with a list of more ideas that I can make happen. She’s personal, professional and has so much information to share, she is the perfect person to write this ebook because she’s been there and done it all. This is the kind of ebook I’ll read and again and again, without a doubt.” ~ Nicole Smith

Keyword Research is Not One-Size Fits All

Keyword Research… SEO… Writing for the Web….  The key for success with your writing online, right?

Yes. Of course. But what I want to share with you today is that like different keys for different doors, so is keyword research something that you should adapt for your specific needs. Let’s take a quick look at why keyword research is not one-size-fits-al. Examine how to tailor your search engine optimization for different needs at different sites.

Keyword Research With Google Keywords External Tool

Use the Google Keywords External Tool for researching keyword phrases – especially if getting paid through a Google Adsense account revenue. This is a great place to start. The keywords external tool will tell you common keyword phrases related to your topic (leave the “Use synonyms” box checked), the average CPC (cost-per-click) and the average search volume.

Advanced Keyword Research for Web Writers

Some advanced features to look into as a web writer include  the yearly search trends, the amount of advertiser competition, and competition you’ll have as a web writer from other websites and articles out there. You can use the yearly search trends column to find keywords that peak during your slowest times to even out your revenue potential. The advertiser competition is a good column to take a quick glance at - if there are zero advertisers competing for a keyword phrase consider chosing a different phrase, since there won’t be any (or many) Google Adsense ads paying for it.

Searching to Find the Number of Competitors

Use Google.com to search for the number of other websites competing with you for that keyword phrase. You can do this by searching the phrase in quotes. If there are 10 million other websites using that same keyword phrase it won’t be easy to get ranked for it. On the other hand, if there are only 10 thousand other websites using that keyword phrase you would stand a much better chance.

Customizing your Keyword Research to Work For You

So what does this mean? How can you use this information to bring traffic or increase potential revenue in your online writing endeavors? Well – the simple answer is – that depends. What do you need?

If you want website traffic or are making money through page view payment your main concern would be traffic (search volume) and number of other websites competing for those keywords. This would also be true if you are selling a product or service. Since you don’t depend on Google adsense for revenue, that part of the equasion is eliminated.

On the other hand, if you’re writing somewhere that shares revenue through Google adsense, you’ll need consider CPC. And writing for a larger, more highly ranked website, will allow you to be more competitive and you can target keyword phrases with higher competition from other sites. However, writing for a smaller, start-up site or personal blog means you will want to target keyword phrases with less competition starting out.

As you can see, there is a lot of information to be gleaned from researching keywords carefully. Tailoring to fit your need is something only you can do. For more details, and step-by-step pictures on how I successfully use keyword research in a variety of situations, watch for the coming ebook “Making Money Blogging – Moving Beyond Banner Ad Sales” being released soon!

Why You Guys Rock and Nestle Doesn’t

YES!!

The last of the most recent Paypal Transactions have cleared. Are you guys ready for this? Today, after much time on the phone with the Mother’s Milk Bank of OH (Thank you, Georgia for your patience), I made a paypal transfer directly to their bank account.

Here’s the screen shot.

transfer pending

Did you catch that total? Yeah- let me show you guys again.

The total amount of donations for Jaeli in the past week is $16.012.60!

The total amount of donations for Jaeli in the past week is $16,012.60!

No you did not blink. You did not misread that comma. In addition to the over three-thousand dollars we sent in last week, we have together sent in another SIXTEEN THOUSAND to the milk bank this week as well. :-) You guys are amazing.

Here’s the final CYA screen shot of the email confirmation from Paypal of the transfer and then I have something else to talk about – Nestle. But first…Georgia (the milk bank director) said she would be posting to the Facebook Cause Group when the transfers were complete and would try to pop in and post updates as additional, directly-sent donations come in as well so keep an eye on that in the next day or two.

Confirmation email from Paypal - Notice the messages from Nestle too.

Confirmation email from Paypal - Notice the messages from Nestle too.

Now then – Nestle. You’ll notice several of the subject lines of the other emails received. From Nestle. A full dozen of you forwarded their *lovely* response to me in addition to the canned replies I got from them myself. Someone IM’d me and said, “WHAT!? Did they even keep track of the updates with this situation?”

My reply is – not according to my Google Analytics. Their three visits to my website from Nestle Corp came within the first week that we started this campaign with no new recorded activity from them in the past two+ weeks. So I’m not sure they WERE keeping up with it.

It doesn’t matter. The official Nestle response, for anyone who didn’t get a copy, is “I have been following the information about Jaeli and her sensitive condition. We hear from many parents about special situations and we treat each request with great concern and attention. I understand your request for our support in providing what Jaeli’s parent(s) believe to be best for their baby. We empathize with the situation but need to respect the professional recommendation of Jaeli’s doctors who are closest to the situation and must have her best interest at heart. Our thoughts are with Jaeli and her family.

There’s a lot I could say – but won’t. Not here. Not in this post of victory. Just this – I’ve had a lot of people asking about boycotts. Now, I can’t tell you want to do with your money. But I can certainly tell you this much – As one of the 590+ citizens of the world who contributed to Jaeli’s need I find their response insulting. And as a mother I find it degrading. They won’t be getting another dime from me. I’d rather send that money to Jaeli anyway. :-)

So here’s my final thoughts on the subject. YOU GUYS ROCK! Here’s what I’ve been seeing from some of YOU – please note the stark contrasts:

  • “Please let me know how else I can help. I don’t have much to give right now, but my heart goes out to this family. I wish I could do more.”
  • “Donation for Jaeli I wish I could send more. Thank you for helping Brandy and this precious baby.”
  • “Found this via Twitter.  We’ll skip the lattes this week!”
  • “Brandy & Jaeli are always in my thoughts and prayers!”
  • “GOOD LUCK JAELI, I HOPE YOU GET BETTER SOON …..AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WITH ALL GOOD THINGS.”
  • “Good luck…I read your story this morning and I know how frustrated you must be with your insurance co.  I will include you in all my prayers……”
  • “God bless you all, and this precious baby. I pray for God to bring her good health, and for peace and rest for her parents. God bless you for raising money for them, and I am sure I will be able to donate more soon. I will have you all in my prayers”
  • “I hope my donation will help. Please keep me posted as to how Jaeli improves. As a mother of grown children and a nurse I would love to contribute again to your precious one. Many prayers are with you all.”
  • “My son is allergic to cow’s milk, so I have some idea of feeding costs.  We’d do more but are unemployed.  Blessings to Jaeli!”
  • “Good luck and god bless”
  • “I hope she does  good. I know how hard it is with an infant illness. God bless you all.”
  • “God Bless little Jaeli and her family”

My personal favorite, and one of the first donations to come in, read “I can only afford to give one ounce of milk for Jaeli. But I will pray and in faith believe that God will take this widow’s mite and multiply greatly“. And He has.

The truth is, by the time Nestle crafted their semi-insulting and seemingly-misinformed reply WE DIDN’T NEED THEM. The truth is, more than 600 people around the world banded together to accomplish a miracle for this baby faster than this large corporation could even formulate their reply. Thanks to you – Nestle’s automated response is nothing more than something to be shrugged away. Their message, inconsequential compared to the numerous messages from hundreds of you of which the previous was only a small sample. And I think the messages speak for themselves.

Blessings,

Buy a Song and Benefit Jaeli! Serum Steps Up on Her Behalf

An interesting development in Jaeli’s story has to do with one of the most unique fundraising ideas I’ve seen yet! A mobile music campaign started by SERUM Music – a record label representing Kristina Halloway, a Christian gospel/pop artist. Her music is really beautiful and I loved “Only You” – more rythm than a standard “gospel” song. As a college-trained musician, I loved her voice.

So here’s the scoop! They found out about Jaeli and want to help! The same way we’ve all been doing for the past month – with each one doing what they can. And what Tina can do is SING.

Download her ringtones for $.99 each by texting JAELItone1 for “It’s Only You” OR JAELItone2 for “Say O” to 47201 and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Jaeli’s fund!

You can hear the songs for yourself at the SERUM Music Website by clicking the “Launch Serum Audio Player” link at the right, top-hand corner.

Purchase either of these songs, “It’s Only You” or “Say O” through the iTunes website or iTunes link on the Serum site as well to benefit Jaeli.

Add a gorgeous song to your ringtone collection or MP3 player and help Jaeli!
