That's the one thing I aim to do... if I do nothing else is to blog for me. The one thing that I don't do more of is give a call to action to my readers, though they don't seem to have a problem weighing in, giving them something to respond to or about and making that "what do you think?" connection is something I need to work on.

@Cheryl. The great thing about blogging, Cheryl, is that we're all equal. Some may have more readers; some may have more commenters. But that doesn't mean you're not as smart as the blogger or commenters. Jump in and share your views - you might be surprised at the result ;-)

@Lorie. Every time a trackback notification comes in, I think I must do your happy dance as well. :) Definite signs that you're doing things right - nice work! :)

I'm guilty of this too. "Hi, my name is Lorie and I'm a drive-by blogger." I do plan to start changing that, though.

On a different, but somewhat related note, I've just figured out what trackbacks are...because I'm starting to see a few of them on my blog...WOOHOO

This is a HUGE issue for me! I'm usually surprised anyone even comments on my blog...and when I am reading blogs, I figure I really don't have anything to add. Like, "who am i?" are they really going to care about my comment, or opinion? This is something that I am really trying to work on! Thanks for the great advice. I really needed it!

Hi Erica,

Glad you enjoyed - that's always a good thing! ;-)

Involving your readers is definitely one of the ways that bloggers can extend their audience, but often it's via "traditional methods" - guest posts, mentioned in a post, a highlighted comment or a giveaway.

Why not make it fun?

Why not ask your readers to make a video (webcam's good, or a Flip) and ask for their opinion on your most popular blog that week (you can get figures from the likes of Google Analytics). Then, the best one gets featured, and you share it on your Facebook profile as well (via the video upload option) so even more folks get to know what cool blog commenters you have.

Or you say that you'll donate a set amount to the favourite charity of the person that writes the funniest comment (while still being relevant)?

Engaging is great, but wouldn't it be cool to engage and be fun? :)

Cheers!

What an inspiring post, Danny!

I'm guilty of reading and leaving. Often.
Working on that! :-)

Also experimenting with new ways in involve my readers. It's frustrating to see the traffic building, and the comment sections empty.

This year, I fully intend to DANCE!
