Day 8 of 31 Days to Build a Better Blog is all about internal links. Linking back to yourself is a great way to drive traffic to older posts that might not be getting as much attention. This is especially helpful when your posts are more evergreen in nature and have a lasting benefit vs. newsy or dated pieces.
Embedding Links in Your Blog Posts
I usually add internal links to my posts by embedding the url into a keyword phrase that describes the post I’m linking to. This is one of the best ways to improve your site’s SEO as well! I also use this technique to cross promote my writing in multiple websites.
Refreshing Old Posts by Linking to New
Sometimes you can refresh or update an old post and link back to it. I did this with my post about Examiner when the site changed and readers were asking for thoughts about the changes. In this case you would just link the two posts together and I included a note in the first post that I wrote an update post.
Homework! – Today I want you to go back through your last four or five recently published posts and see if there are keywords phrases that are related to previous posts you’ve written. Alternatively, you can write an updated post for a post on your blog that needs to be updated, or refreshed. Be sure to leave a comment with the link when you’re done!

This is a great way to promote your own site, but yet I fail to do it on my own blogs. I’ve got to change that! Here’s my blog where I added a link: http://freelancewritingblogger.blogspot.com/2010/08/update-on-mylikes-review.html
